October 2025 – The Take-Up Study

Steve Marshall presents The Take-up Study, which is a Marie Curie funded research project based at the Cicely Saunders Institute at King’s College London. The study involves analysis of existing data to investigate the take-up of benefits amongst people living with terminal illness, along with interviews with patients and family members, and focus groups with healthcare professionals to understand the barriers and facilitators to claiming benefits. One of the findings of the study is that there is some misunderstanding and confusion about the Special Rules for End-of Life and completing SR1 forms. The Take-up Team have therefore developed a 5-minute, ‘bite-sized’ teaching session to clarify the Special Rules and encourage more clinicians to complete SR1 forms.
